Empowerment Creates Sustainable Livelihoods
This is the inspiring story of Shevanti, who resides in the Tansa Valley with her husband Jairam, children, and grandchildren. The family cultivates rice on 1.5 acres, but due to Jairam’s long-term illness, he is unable to work, leading to financial struggles for the family.
In May 2019, Shevanti joined a PRASAD Chikitsa Self-Help Group (SHG). After attending a talk on organic farming, she recognized the benefits and the potential of using her livestock’s manure to fertilize vegetables. Motivated to support her family, she secured a loan of $240 from her SHG to purchase seeds.
With training, Shevanti successfully cultivated a range of vegetables, including coriander, spinach, and tomatoes, achieving impressive yields organically. She started selling her produce at the Ganeshpuri market, earning between $3 to $4 each day.
Thanks to her hard work and the guidance she received from PRASAD, she is now able to support her family and improve their quality of life.
To empower more women like Shevanti, we invite you to consider making a donation to PRASAD. Your support can help provide training and resources to women in need, enabling them to create sustainable livelihoods and uplift their families.
Thank you for your consideration and support!
