PRASAD Children’s Dental Health Program
Happy Healthy Smiles for Children
In the United States, tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease. It affects one in four elementary school children and two out of three adolescents. Access to dental services continues to be one of the biggest challenges for low-income families.
Poor oral health has negative consequences that go beyond unhealthy teeth. It can impact a child’s ability to study, eat and sleep properly, as well as lower their self-esteem. Nationally, children lose 51 million school hours each year because of dental problems.
For 26 years, PRASAD Children’s Dental Health Program (PRASAD CDHP) has been committed to improving the dental health of children by providing affordable, comprehensive dental services to thousands of low-income children annually in Sullivan County in New York State.
PRASAD CDHP is an Article 28 NYS Department of Health certified clinic, approved to operate in New York State schools. A certified, school-based health center is a safe, easily accessible location on a school campus where students can go for preventive and primary health care services.
We deliver services via a state-of-the-art mobile dental clinic that parks right at local public schools, making it convenient for children and their families. We also provide in-classroom dental education to foster healthy habits.
Our school-based program focuses on expanding children’s and parents’ knowledge of dental health. We take a holistic approach, emphasizing the relationship between dental health, healthy eating, and overall physical health and well-being. By teaching healthy habits, we are encouraging behaviors that last a lifetime.
In our Mobile Dental Clinic, we provide a full range of services, including exams, cleanings, X-rays, fillings, extractions, sealants, and fluoride treatments. The Mobile Dental Clinic has a reception area and two private suites with sterilization, examination, and X-ray and treatment equipment.
Since our inception, PRASAD CDHP has provided 32,000 dental visits, more than 100,000 dental procedures. and dental health education as well as oral hygiene supplies to 95,000 children.
